Silbert & Bress, Inc. began in 1976 in Mahopac, New York with one book, some tutoring jobs and hundreds of ideas.

The founders and creators are Alvin Jay Silbert, Ed.D. and Linda Bress Silbert, Ph.D.

They began writing for the educational market and soon produced the Creative Thinking Workbook series, which also marked the debut of their trademark characters, the Little Twirps.

Distribution began with the Silberts going from one mom and pop store to another with copies of My Own Book of Wishes tucked under their arms and their two small children in tow. Within two weeks they placed the books in enough stores to catch the attention of the Gary and Reidel Company, a sales representative with offices on Fifth Avenue in New York City. They became the exclusive sales reps for the East Coast. Other sales reps covered the rest of the United States and Canada.

The Silberts completed the Creative Thinking Workbook series and began writing the eight Understanding People Storybooks, which focus on the real-life trials and tribulations all kids experience as a normal part of growing up. Once again, these books featured the Little Twirps as the leading characters. The Silberts followed these intitial succeses with the seven Make-My-Own Books and the Learning by Coloring books for the preschool market.

During these early years, theSilberts continued teaching, tutoring and researching student behaviors. Their research pointed to the need to find better ways to help children become emotionally, socially, and intellectually strong.

This led to the S+T+R+O+N+G® Life Skills series, a K-5 life skills program for use in schools. It embodies all of the elements their research showed is necessary to produce happy, well-adjusted, successful people: Self-esteem + Trust + Responsibility + Options + Needs + Goals. They organized them into the acronym S+T+R+O+N+G® that became their trademark. After a breather, they produced the S+T+R+O+N+G® Study Skills Program for middle and high school students.

The Silberts are presently writing a series of parenting books to help moms and dads learn what they can do to help their children succeed in school.
